Leaving Kotor, you will start a spectacular drive up the side of the mountain behind the town of Kotor, by the Old Road constructed in the 19^th century by Austro-Hungarians. This drive brings in front of your eyes incredibly stunning panoramas at almost every switchback. A photo stop will be made near the top of the mountain of Kotor so that you can immortalize this unique panorama of the bay, and, depending on visibility, the view all the way to the Adriatic Sea.

As you continue your journey through the mountains, the landscape transforms dramatically. On the way to the mountain village of Njegusi, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the charming agricultural lands. This village, the birthplace of the Petrović dynasty that ruled Montenegro from the 17th to the early 20th century, is renowned for its dairy and meat products. Local specialties like smoked ham, cheese, and honey wine are popular among visitors. You can even purchase these delicacies in one of the local restaurants, once sold in cities like Kotor, Dalmatia, Trieste, and Venice.

Departing the village, the landscape soon changes one more time, in quite an extraordinary way, as you continue to climb through the Montenegrin karsts formations. This rocky limestone terrain which greets us here does not resemble the farmlands you have seen minutes ago. This journey through “the sea of stones” leads you to a beautiful valley just beyond these peaks where you arrive in the Old Royal Capital of Montenegro, Cetinje.

A short walking tour of Cetinje in its small pedestrian area and the explanations of your guide will present you the immense historical heritage of this beautiful town, dating back to 15^th century. It soon became the center of Montenegrin spiritual life and culture as well as being an important Orthodox religious center. Cetinje carries that peaceful atmosphere of tranquility and attracts many visitors due to its natural beauty and abundant impressive architectural structures including a number of international embassies. During your walk in town, you will see the exterior of the Royal Palace in Cetinje.

Ending your walk in Cetinje, you will then begin driving back towards the coast. This time, following a different route descending from the mountains above, you arrive in the Riviera of Montenegro, at the reputed resort town of Budva. Usually called “the metropolis of tourism”, Budva is the most visited destination in Montenegro and one of the pearls of this part of the Adriatic Sea. Upon arrival, your guide will take you on a short walking tour of the completely walled old town of Budva, perched on a small peninsula and where you will find medieval forts, a citadel, narrow cobbled alleys and streets connecting small squares around the city. The adjacent waterfront is beautiful to promenade and dotted with bars, restaurants and shops.

Leaving Budva, you will return to Kotor where you leave your vehicle and accompanied by your guide, take an approximately an hour stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kotor which houses one of the best-preserved medieval old towns of the Adriatic. This walking tour of Kotor’s old town is perfect for ending your private tour. The town’s rich history goes as early back as the second century BC and was even settled during Ancient Roman times. It has succeeded to preserve its original form, typical to these kinds of towns in the Medieval Ages.
